The Universe itself is worshipped by novisians. It is a worship based on fear, as the Universe only tolerates life within it. If the people of Asmoria make too much noise, mostly in the form of magic, It may take notice and eradicate them.
Nevos split from Toivis soon after the Aeldreans arrived on Asmoria. While other groups viewed the knowledge and magic that the Aeldreans brought as boons, Tirag Mik and his followers saw the increased magic as a danger that would bring the wrath of the universe.
The intense distrust of the Aeldreans put early novisians at odds with most of the other major religious groups and prevented them from gaining a large following.
The novisian clergy is made entirely of men. Besides conducting services, they are also known for their extensive knowledge of history. They are not forbidden from having families but rarely do so anyway.
WORSHIPWorship takes place on Neuday in the morning. It takes several hours and consists of prayer and reflection. After formal worship, novisians rest the rest of the day to prepare for the rest of the week.
Novisians value diligence, loyalty, and thoughtfulness above all else. They look down upon despair, sloth, cowardice, and wrath and magic use is forbidden.
CREATIONThe Universe has always existed though it changes form. It restarts when It detects life has become advanced by rearranging the cosmos, ripping all of existance apart and putting it back together again.
AFTERLIFEThe afterlife has different planes of existance where souls wait to be resurrected either in this world or the next.
Marriage only takes place after a long courtship. The couple is married at a temple on a day of their choosing and are given many gifts from the community. The couple also exchanges sashes that will be worn during holidays and important gatherings. These are traditionally homemade though wealthy couples have been known commission an intricate pattern.
BIRTHChildren are celebrated as the return of an old soul. At one year of age the children are examined by a clergy member to determine what type of person they were in a previous life. This can include seeing what objects they are interested in or asking them simple questions.
DEATHFunerals are a private affair with a simple prayer from a member of the clergy. Members of the clergy are given more public funerals. Death is considered a hard but not sad occassion, as novisians believe all souls will eventually see each other again.
